Why is a referral network needed?

Public awareness of orthodontics and orthopedic dentistry has increased dramatically in the last few years, and members of the public now frequently request referral to a practitioner experienced in this approach. To date this has been done on an ad hoc basis of personal recommendation. However, with the profession expanding rapidly, this is no longer sufficient.
